Meet the TruMoms

Meet Heather.
After a flu-less winter in her household, Heather discovered that feeding fresh organic berries to her daughters every day boosted their immune systems, and kept them healthy. As a result, she spent less money on doctors visits and antibiotics, and her kids spent more time healthy, happy, and in school. The following spring and summer, she and her daughters went to a local farm, picked hundreds of pounds of organic berries, froze them, and used them to make anti-oxidant rich smoothies and popsicles the following winter during cold and flu season. Along the way she learned that she could add kale, spinach, avocado, carrots, and other healthy ingredients, and that her kids loved them just the same.

Meet Bree.
A health and fitness fanatic, farmers' market and CSA-devotee, and lifelong lover of all vegetables and fruits, Bree was certain that her three kids would come out of the womb with healthy eating habits. But – as new parents quickly learn – our little people have minds of their own.  While her two sons took a liking to many fruits and vegetables, her daughter would not touch any of them.  Not raw, steamed, roasted, mashed, cut into stars, arranged on skewers, or delivered with a bribe.  Humbled and exhausted by mealtime battles, Bree began starting each day by whipping up smoothies loaded with fruits and vegetables and offering them to her kids.  She discovered that knowing that her kids were ingesting essential vitamins and nutrients through these smoothies, she felt more relaxed about their vegetable and fruit intake at mealtime.  However, there were mornings when she was running late, or simply didn't have the proper ingredients handy.  So she started freezing smoothies into ice-pop molds, and handing them to her kids on the way out the door to school or sports.  Turns out, these were an even bigger hit with the kids!

Meet Cecilia.
A passion for cooking and a love of food has been at the core of Cecilia’s family for generations, dating back to her great-grandfather’s ranch in Argentina, where the animals were all pastured and grass-fed.  Growing up, Cecilia took a keen interest in nutrition, experiencing firsthand how healthy, homemade food could bring people together and literally cure almost any ill.  Today, Cecilia is an aspiring locavore, a lover of exercise and healthy living, and a wife and mother.  As a mom to one picky preschooler and one eat-anything baby, Cecilia is always focused on ways to encourage a love of healthy food in her own family.  She found that trips to her local farm to pick produce, and bringing the kids into the cooking process was a good start—but not enough.  Smoothies, frozen pops, and veggie-packed soups became essential to entice her reluctant healthy eater (and her husband!) to try new foods.  Now she wants to share this goodness with other moms.

These three Moms, concerned with providing healthy choices for their children, came together to discuss how incorporating lots of fruits and vegetables into their kids’ daily diets directly impact their family’s physical health. They started sharing recipes and discussing ways to teach the importance of adding more fruit and vegetables to their kids’ diets.

What they discovered was that -- between the three TruMoms -- they had endless meal and snack ideas and that real food this good is meant to be shared.
